Since 2023, the Confucius Institute in Munich has initiated a window display project that not only provides insight into the 24 Jieqi - officially inscribed by UNESCO on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity - but also offers the opportunity to admire the artworks from calligraphy and Chinese painting courses or to marvel at the creative works of children from the holiday workshop. In addition, small, theme-based exhibitions are regularly presented.
This window display expands the limited space and allows light to flow in generously. It creates a new cultural landscape and, throughout the seasons, becomes a place where one can experience and appreciate the beauty of life and art.
Since January 2023, you have the opportunity at the beginning of each month to discover the 24 Jieqi through Chinese characters, Pinyin, German translations, and hand-painted windows. For more information on the 24 solar terms, please click on our 24 Jieqi.
The window display design was carried out by Li Ran and Doris Leibold, with Li Ran also creating the hand-drawn window. You can admire their works on Instagram under @plusminussieben.
Autumn is the most colourful time of the year. The shop window shows a colourful autumn with hand-painted maple leaves, ginkgos and birds as well as handmade paper leaves and the fascinating traditional woodcuts of the ethnic group Bai (白族) in Yunnan.
On the colourful branches you can also see the flyer for this year's Chinese Film Festival Munich. We cordially invite you to experience Chinese cinema in Munich from 4 - 18 November 2024.
