Every second Friday in the month, Stiftung ex orient, supporter of the Confucius Institute Munich, invites you to the Jour Fixe. The Jour Fixe offers an opportunity for social interaction in an informal setting, with presentations and a cultural programme.

Entry is free.

Über Geschichte und Umfang der Traditionellen Chinesischen Musik

Der Vortrag findet in englischer Sprache statt.

Der 163. Jour Fixe fällt genau auf den chinesischen Neujahrstag im Jahr des Büffels. Wir freuen uns, an diesem besonderen Tag den Musikethnologen Herrn Prof. Zhang Boyu vom Zentralen Musikkonservatorium (CCOM) aus Peking im Livestream begrüßen zu dürfen.

Die Musikerinnen und Musiker des weltbekannten Musikkonservatoriums (CCOM) sehen und hören Sie online beim Chinesischen Neujahrskonzert am 14. Februar 2021 um 10.30 Uhr (Programm und Anmeldung). Sie spielen auf traditionellen chinesischen Instrumenten u.a. Auszüge aus dem Werk von Ludwig van Beethoven.

History and Scope of Chinese Traditional Music

Speaker: Professor Zhang Boyu (Central Conservatory of Music, Beijing)

1. Classification of Chinese Traditional Music
2. Historical Music Instruments
3. Historical Chinese Instrumental Ensembles
4. Current Survived Traditional Ensembles and Their Performing Social Contexts
5. Newly Established National Orchestra. In this section, the following idea will be discussed:

Since the beginning of the 20th century, Chinese people have been faced with a conflict between the traditional and the modern cultures. Western music has flooded into Chinese musical life, having an extraordinary influence on Chinese traditional music. The Chinese national orchestra, a type of large orchestra based on the Western symphony orchestra, is one of the results of this influence.

Boyu Zhang is professor of Ethnomusicology at Department of Musicology, Central Conservatory of Music; director of the Central Conservatory of Music Press; vice-Chairman of Chinese Traditional Music Association. He received Ph.D. from Finland Turku University. From 2002 to 2011, Zhang served as the director of musicology department at Central Conservatory of Music and contributed to the building of “World Music Instruments Training Center” “Instruments Museum” “World Music Days” and “Music Education Alliance across the ‘Belt and Road’”. Zhang received supports from The National Social Science Fund of China, China National Arts Fund and National Publication Foundation and published more 10 books and over 100 articles in both Chinese and English. He was awarded the Individual Achievement Award for Overseas Chinese Returnees by the Ministry of Education, the Publicity Department of CCCPC and etc. His work won the Excellent Works of the Fist Woodpecker Cup Chinese Literary and Art Criticism.
