Chinese Bridge Competition for students

Chinese Bridge (汉语桥) is an international language competition for students, and is organised annually by the Ministry of Education (China). It offers students from all over the world the chance to come together, and to demonstrate their Chinese language skills on an international stage. The winners of the national competitions are invited to China to take part in the finale.

There are separate competitions for high school students and those in higher education.

Competition tasks

  • Chinese language short presentation on the topic of "One World, One Family" (approx. 3 minutes)
  • Answering various questions, including general knowledge about China
  • Cultural performance (approx. 5 min) e.g. Chinese singing, dance or martial arts

Prizes

  1. Prize: Participation in the finale of the competition in China as a candidate
  2. Prize: Participation in the finale of the competition in China as an audience member
  3. Prize: Language scholarship in China

Application requirements

Higher education students

  • Enrolled at a German institution of higher education
  • Between 18 and 30 years old
  • No Chinese citizenship or Chinese background (no native speakers!)
  • No previous participation in the Chinese Bridge competition in China
  • No more than one year spent working or studying in China

High school students

  • Students at a general secondary school
  • Aged between 15 and 20 years
  • No Chinese citizenship or Chinese background (no native speakers!)
  • No previous participation in the Chinese Bridge competition in China
  • Good Chinese language verbal, reading and writing skills
  • General knowledge about China

There are two different competitions: For high school students and those in higher education. The language skills of participants in the competition for higher education students should be at least HSK 5. Participants in the high school student competition should have at least HSK 4 language skills, and possess good verbal skills.

Take part!
