In July 2022, the Confucius Institute in Munich held an academic online conference. The organization was overseen by Prof. Dr. Roderich Ptak. The planning was jointly supported by the Faculty of Arts of the University of Lisbon in Lisbon, represented by Prof. Dr. Luís F. Barreto and Prof. Dr. Elisabetta Colla. The theme of the conference was: “Commemorating an Important Victory: Macau and the Dutch in 1622 / Comemorando uma Importante Vitória: Macau e os Holandeses em 1622.” The presentations were delivered in English.
A selection of the presentations—alongside contributions from another, similarly maritime-history-oriented event—was published in 2025 in an edited volume: Arianna Magnani and Elisabetta Colla (eds.), Beyond the Seas: Routes, Traders and Narratives of Macau and the South China Sea (Lisbon: Centro Científico e Cultural de Macau; Macau: University of Macau, 2025).
